Gwangju News is the international magazine of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, published monthly since July 2001.

Now in its 25th year, the magazine covers the full spectrum of life in this remarkable region — arts and culture, science and technology, nature and daily life — alongside the deeper currents that have always defined Gwangju: democracy, human rights, peace, justice, and solidarity with the oppressed.

From memorial sites to music stages, from international cooperation to grassroots movements, each issue reflects a city that is at once creative, resilient, and globally connected.

Our Story

Gwangju News began in July 2001 as a modest 8-page black-and-white monthly, introducing Gwangju to English-speaking readers around the world. By 2003, growing readership brought color printing and expanded coverage. Over the years the magazine grew to 56, then 80 for the 200th issue back in 2018, then 74 pages this month — and has been published digitally on ISSUU since 2015, freely accessible to anyone, anywhere.
